Is MAT Exam Analysis A Better Approach For Improving Upon The Shortcomings?

By Rajnish Mehan

It is usual for every student to be hopeful of a successful attempt after he or she has appeared in the entrance. Everyone wants a rank in the exam so that they can take admissions in the subjects and colleges of their choice. As people fill in the forms and appear in the entrance tests, they are apprehensive as well as excited. They are only one step behind studying of their favorite courses.

For an exam like MAT, the significance is further enhanced as people have a great opportunity for a prosperous career after passing out from the top management colleges of the country. During the preparatory phase, the students adopt a lot of means to ensure that they are able to answer the maximum number of questions and get through with good results. They practise previous years’ questions, solve mock test papers, attend coaching classes and burn a lot of oil. During such toiling, one important aspect that is required to be taken care of is that of the question paper analysis. This can be done in two ways and is beneficial for two groups of people.

When people are preparing for the MAT exam which is conducted 4 times in a year, they go through a number of questions. They get these questions from guide books, solved question papers, coaching institute materials and previous years’ questions. At this time, they should do the exam analysis which is helpful.

During such an analysis, people go through the different questions in each section. They try to solve it by looking at the solutions or asking for solutions from their teachers or seniors. They can also refer a number of books so find the best way for solving them. The best time to carry out such an analysis is immediately after solving a mock paper or previous year paper in the same manner as in the final exam. It should be a simulation of the actual exam. After the test is finished, the students can go for looking at the solutions and try to make out the points where they went wrong.

Advantages:

In such a methodology of looking at the faults, students can very well understand the points which they are not well versed with. This will allow them to improve these subjects or portions. During the subsequent days of preparations, they can work on their weaknesses so that, by the time they appear for their final exams, they are competent in these portions also. Such a type of exam analysis is very essential for improving the shortcomings and strengthening the weaknesses.

Another form of MAT exam analysis is done where the candidate has appeared recently in the exam. During this time, the students should go through the different questions and clearly reflect on what went wrong. They should analyse whether the time given to each question was more than required to they were not able to focus throughout the exam. Also, each question should be inspected about the reasons for not being able to answer them. During this time, the students will have to reflect on way to improve upon their shortcomings in the next attempt.

This method of exam analysis for the management aptitude test is very much useful for the aspiring candidates and is sure to improve their rankings in the future exams. Those who realise this particular concept will be able to excel in every aspect of life because retrospection opens the door to look into one’s own shortcomings.
