MAT or Management Aptitude Test is the right choice for a student who desires to be an efficient manager in the business field or in a company. Although the hegemony of US in producing the maximum number of MBA and management courses pass outs has hit India hard, but still management is still the first choice of many students who find themselves capable in subjects like marketing, accountancy, business studies and economics. People interested in the business aspect of any field can opt for giving MAT without any hesitation as this exam can ensure you a seat in the top MBA colleges of the country. It a national level test which is conducted annually by All India Management Association and almost all the business colleges and schools grant admission to their courses on the basis of MAT score. However, CAT is another test which is considered above MAT but since the level of CAT is quite higher, MAT is considered to be the best judge for an average student. The syllabus for MAT preparation covers a wide range of subjects and consists of five papers in all. One can give the test manually or on the computer as convenient. MAT is a test which is considered to be the most flexible in the terms of its eligibility criteria. Person applying for MAT need not worry about any age limit plus there are no minimum marks required in the graduation to sit for the test. The only requirement is that the candidate has to be a graduate from a certified university. Keeping in mind the importance of time in a student’s life, MAT also allows last year graduation students to sit for the exam. This exam also gives an opportunity to the candidates to apply in various other fields other than business as the colleges and universities offering varied courses in post graduation like business administration, human resource management, media management, media financing also consider scores of MAT. As the syllabus of MAT deals with varied subjects like English communication, literature, mathematics, general awareness and all, the five papers which a candidate need to clear are language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and sufficiency, intelligence and critical reasoning and Indian and global environment. All the papers show that a management aspirant need to be well versed in English, have excellent knowledge of basic mathematics, understand the dynamism of global village and international exchanges and some general reasoning and logical applications. 150 minutes is the time which is provided to the candidates to finish their exam and answer around 200 questions. Unlike other entrance exams, MAT clearance is possible even without attending coaching classes and devoting substantial time to self reading and understanding the concepts. Books and sample papers for preparing are easily available on various websites and shops. Reading the passages and solving the comprehensions is what takes the maximum time in this exam and one needs to practice and build a strategy to divide the timeline for it.
