Steps To Prepare For NATA: Some Bare Essentials To Become An Architect

By Rajnish Mehan

The exam of National Aptitude Test for Architecture or NATA is one of the premier entrance exams for admissions into various architecture colleges of the country. The course of architecture is one of the most demanded among the student communities, especially among those who have an interest in the field of designing buildings and landscapes.

To become an architect of repute, the students need to undergo college education first, the beginning of which is in the form of graduation in B.Arch in an architecture college. Plenty of such colleges are found in India, which have exclusive courses for architecture while some courses are found in combination with the engineering courses in the technology institutes. By taking admissions into these courses, the students will be required to study for 4 years followed by training or apprenticeship to hone the practical knowledge.

Those who are interested can go on to study further courses which could be a master’s degree or some certificate or diploma course. Even, these graduates have the option of joining interior designing courses. But, the basic format which the students need to complete in order to become a reputed architect is the B Arch or bachelor in architecture. Many students are nowadays showing interest in these courses and therefore seeking admissions into various architecture colleges in the country. And for them, the NATA is the best way to enter into colleges of their choice. But, in order to pass the entrance test hurdle, the students will have to take into consideration a few aspects.

• Filling up the form – No exam is possible to be cleared without the filling of the application form. This form is available to be downloaded and filled up along with the demand draft of the specified amount. In the test centres, the students can complete their registration process.

• The eligibility of the candidates in order to appear for the NATA is 10+2 pass with mathematics as one of the subjects and a score of 50% marks in this qualifying exam. Students who are about to appear in their 12th standard test can also sit for the test but they should have a pass result before taking admissions.

• During the process of counselling, after having a rank in the entrance test of NATA, students are given a choice to join a particular college, which would depend on the discretion of the candidates.

The test of NATA is done to know the aptitude of the candidates in terms of creativity drawing, aesthetic sensibilities, critical thinking, sense of proportion, observational skills and ability to have an idea of constructions. Although the filling of form and eligibility conditions, are first criteria to be fulfilled, the preparations are also holding some importance. If people want to attempt the exam without difficulty, they should solve mock test papers and previous year’s questions. Such simulated practise would be helpful for the students to pass through the entrance exam and study in an architecture college. With the knowledge gained over the duration of studies, people can now set in their path to ensure that they become good architects and have a prosperous future ahead.
